Council Meeting of January 11th, 2023

I wanted to inform you about the items discussed at last nights’ council meeting. The agenda included several updates on important matters affecting the municipality. a link to the live stream is here.

Closed Session

  • First, CAO Robin Dunn provided a legal update on litigation affecting the municipality. (This occurred in closed session in accordance with Section 239(2)(e) of the Municipal act, 2001). I cannot add more comment than the agenda.

  • He also discussed personal matters related to an identifiable individual and the Municipal Services Corporation. (This item occurred in closed session in accordance with Section 239(2)(b) of the Municipal Act, 2001). Once this came into open session, a closed ballot was undertaken and former councillor Ian Veitch was elected to the Municipal Services corporation in addition to CAO Robin Dunn (As CEO of MSC), Director of Environmental Services Michelle Jakobi (As COO of MSC), and members of the public: Darren LeClair; John Sloan; John Skorobahacz. (Mr. Dunn, Ms. Jakobi, and the members of the public were appointed during December 14th’s meeting).

We heard a presentation by Inspector Coyer Yateman, Detachment Commander, Orillia Detachment, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) on the Quarter 3 (July, August, September 2022) statistics update. Overall Oro-Medonte is an incredibly safe community, and the council is looking for more ways to ensure our communities are adequately protected.

We also received updates on the Elmvale Groundwater Study from Michelle Jakobi, Director of Environmental Services. This is a fantastic opportunity for us to learn more about what is understood as one of the most pristine ground water sources in the world, and how it is possibly connected to our own Oro-Moraine.

We heard about Bill 23’s changes and their impacts from Derek Witlib, Acting Director of Development Services and Nelly Morrow, Director of Finance/Chief Financial Officer. As you know, Bill 23 this a significant change to the municipality, and it will likely be several more months before its known exactly what the impact on our township will be.

Please let me know if you have any questions about these items or any other concerns you would like me to address on your behalf.

Yours in service,

David Clark
