As you may already know, the Township of Oro-Medonte recently completed its budget ratification process on March 29th, 2023. It was a lengthy process, with over 16 hours of public meetings and discussions, but we are pleased to announce that we have arrived at a final number of a 4.5% increase, down from the initial proposal of a 5.34% blended rate increase.
We recognize that any increase in taxes is a concern for our residents, but we want to assure you that this budget includes much-needed spending to ensure the quality of our roads, water, and waste water systems. Additionally, we have included growth expansion for our fire service to ensure that we can continue to provide the best possible service to our community.
As a council, we made some key decisions to help reduce costs where possible. For example, we opted to use reserves instead of debt financing on some of the bridge work, which will save over $650,000 in interest costs to the township and ultimately, the taxpayer, over the next 10 years.
We recognize that there may still be questions and concerns regarding the budget, and we encourage all residents to reach out to us with any feedback or questions. We are committed to being transparent and accountable to our community and will continue to work to ensure that we are making fiscally responsible decisions that benefit our community both now and in the future.
